- JOSHUA TREE NATIONAL PARK
The park is a magical place for countless different reasons. Its namesake, of course, is the Joshua Tree, a member of the agave family with a distinct appearance. The Joshua Tree has been known for thousands of years for its beauty and utility; everything from baskets and footwear to food and clothing can be crafted out of its materials.

Some of the most rewarding activities to do in the park include camping at Hidden Valley campground or Jumbo Rocks, checking out Keys View, walking Barker Dam Nature Trail, and hiking to Skull Rock. A getaway at Iso House empowers you to walk or hike amongst the Joshua Trees, climb the towering rock walls, camp under the stars, capture nature's beauty in photographs, and soak up the tranquility of this incredible place!

Black tailed jack rabbits, desert bighorn sheep, coyotes, kangaroo rats, and a number of smaller mammals all call Joshua Tree National Park home. Large flocks of migrating birds can also be spotted in the park during the winter months because of its location along the Pacific migratory bird flyway.

History of the Park:
The Joshua Tree area has been inhabited for at least 5,000 years. In the 1920s the expansion of roads into the area brought developers and poachers. Minerva Hoyt, a resident of Pasadena with an extreme love for the High Desert's plants, became concerned about the removal of her favorite plants and ultimately her years-long efforts resulted in 825,000 acres being set aside as Joshua Tree National Monument in 1936 and then Joshua Tree National Park in 1994. We like to think of Minerva as the Mother of the Park!
